  2. Hi Javier, Enric, Salva, Lluis Jaun and all other Spanish Breeders that I spoke to.
Can I thank you all for making us so welcome. I found everybody so friendly and enthusiastic about this hobby of breeding Budgerigars.
I was only able to bring 1 bird a Lutino. Yes the show was different to how it is in the UK. I'm sure from running this show you have learnt a lot and can only improve. I do not know what show procedure you are using so if Javier you could sent this to me it would be apprieciated. I think you said it was on the same lines as in Holand as Salva has conection there.

Some points I would like to make about the show if you could think about and possible you are already aware of.

    1. I did not have any paper work, we call a Schedule that I could have looked at to know my way around the show. You had a Croydon Schedule on show that I gave you Javier.
    2. Its best to have only 1 type of cage design if possible, clean and with no Old Labels on them. These must be cleaned off before show starts.
    3. Booking in was very slow. Have labels ready in advance in an envelope ready for breeders to collect and place on there cages. Then they book them in with your secretary who ticks them off on their entry form. Stewards then places them on the staging.
    4. It is not important on the entry form to have the whole ring number of the bird. Then the breeder who wants to enter a Lutino can choose the best one on the day. You only need the Ring code of the Breeder. Example: Mine is JIB1
    5. Food/seed. I was concerned that birds could not eat properly. I noticed that seed pots were on the outside of the plastic cages and the birds could not put their heads through the hole to eat because these cages are for caneries. Make it easy for yourselves next year just put 2cm 1/2in at the bottom of each cage. No pots needed and no wood chips required.
    6. Do get a feed back from Jonas Nillson what he thinks and how you can improve show procedure. The Show committee must meet and make plans for next years show.

Thank you very much for the gifts of seed and food.

Best of Luck to you all and keep in contact. I will translate this into Spanish.

  3. Hi,
I just wanted to add a comment over the recent show. The society in general and I in particular want to congratulate Ray Fern for his BIS, his bird was outstanding and he deservedly got the first prize. John we expect you will have a successful breeding season and bring some fantastic budgerigars next year even so you brought a beautiful lutino, pure buttercup. We know you made some nice connections with some of the breeders, some of them members of our Society. I saw you are really keen on helping us to improve this new hobby in Spain; we will take as much advice as we can implement. Many thanks for going Gill, padle and all the way up to Valencia, I hope you felt welcome.

    Javier

  4. Hi there,
we, from ACEP-SBS takes the challenge of bringing the Spanish resident British budgies breeders to our first budgerigar show. I know we have raised some doubts as some of the measures we had to take are aligned with the ones that the UK shows has, but please remember this is our very first show. We know the show cages needs to be improved, we know we will have to oil some of the processes over the show, but we also know that next October we will hold the best ever budgerigar show ever had on over country, in Naquera-Valencia-Spain, and that you most likely will help us the years to come as you are doing right now. We do appreciate what Ray and you try to do for us, and we know we have to learn how to crawl before we walk.
Just one correction, the judge this time is not the great Rinus but Mr. Jonas Nielson, that we are honored to welcome into Spain as the Budgerigar Swedish Society and Mr. Ramon Cuerda, one of the most prestigious budgerigar judges in out country.
We hope you enjoy the weekend and make friends over here, we will build from first "coming together" show, I have no doubt about it.
Be ready for the show, I am sure you might be surprised of the quality of some of our local breeder birds.
Whatever the outcome, you please consider yourself at home.

    Javier (ACEP-SBS)

  5. Hello to every one.
I will be going to My First Spanish Budgerigar Show. 16th -17th October. ACEP - SBS SHOW. To be held in the town of Naquera near Valencia. We will be setting of early on Friday morning for our long drive, about 10 hours i've worked out it will take us. We are into camping so have booked into Puzol Camp Site. Here we will meet up with Val & Jeff Bedwell and Ray Fern. We expect to have a good laugh putting up our tents and the camp site looks good by there website. To be honest I don't know what to expect and ACEP's is a small club and at this stage do not have a standard show cage that I am concerned about. I've spoken to Javier Moreno about it and perhaps next year they may have resolved the problem. Ray has also said he would help in this area as much as possible so ACEP's has got good advice on tap. I hope they take it on board and advance and keep in line wirh all WBO rules. They are having two Judges present. One is a Dutch Judge Rinus van der Broek the other a Spanish that I don't know the name off. I'don't have a clue our many birds will be at the show but I'm very interested in meeting other Spanish breeders and making contact with them. The general standard of Exhibition Budgerigars in Spain to me is doubtful so this is another area that I want to explore. If I find an exhibitor that I find has good birds this will be good for outcrosses. I will write more in this section on my return and feature some pictures.

    Bye for now John Isles

    Hi Keith,
No, not the type I buy in the UK. I'm here now and will bring back some with me. In the Bird Shop Avenida Mijas they sell the canary soft food. Very yellow stuff and fine. Some breeders use this, it worth giving it a try and see if your birds like it. It may take them a little while.

What you can do is put a little bit of brown bread out for them and soak in some milk. They like that but don't leave it too long. Crated carrot is good mixed in. Back at the end of April look us up.

    Regards John & Gill

  7. Hi John

I have recently joined the team of PetZone magazine as editor. We will be bringing out our first issue on 15th March which may be a little tight but we were really interested in finding people with expertise in pet Budgerigars who may beable to provide us with an introductory article. We are on the Western Costa del Sol and it would be very helpful if you could put us in touch with people who are interested in Budgerigars so that we can include some interesting articles (and hopefully advertisers!) in future editions.

I hope you are able to help.

    Kind regards

  12. Hello John, I hope you like the new pictures I have sent to update the website to show our new aviary and breeding cages. Once again thanks for all your help and encouragement and heres to you and all budgerigar breeders for the 2010 season.

  13. Hello John
I already have send an E-mail to Ghalib Al-nasser to this address: al-nasser@ntlworld.com, but he didn´t answer me yet, so I will try to send the message to this address: al-nasser@cbb4u.co.uk if he still don´t answer me (us) I will let you know. I have write him like the P.R. of our society, because we would like to fill some parts of our web site with some photos from the standar from the WBO and other thinks like that.
About the rules of our future shows I tink they have to be quite similar to the international shows, because the rules we have now are made for the canarys. If we want to show our birds into thew canarys sows we will have to follow they rules (Normaly they don´t like changes) is for that we will have to promote our own show with our own rules.
    Regards
    Salva

  14. Dear Salvador y Javier,

If you go into http://www.world-budgerigar.org/ you find much information. If you go into my links page there is a link there also. You will find Ghalib's e-mail address.

He has just moved house and will have another e-mail address that I will find and let you have.

  15. Hello Salvador,

Many thanks for comments. At this stage I don't know what rules you have made. Could you please e-mail them
to me? I think it is very important to be affiliated to WBO World Budgerigar Organisation and ask them what Show rules we should adhere to. There are shows in Portugal and I think we should have the same rules as them. As long as it is WBO rules. The best course of action is to contact WBO Ghalib Al-nasser is very much involed and I'm sure he would advice and send all information and guidence. I will check who else can help and come back to you with names and contact details. I think its very important to start the correct way or a lot of time could be wasted. There are plenty of rules out there that could be easy to follow and could save a lot of time. Some of the rules could be flexible as the fancy in Spain is small. Budgerigar show rules will be completley different to Canary rules but this should not be an issue. It will be slow progress at first but if everybody helps and understands procedures it will work.
    Regards John

  16. Hello John
If everyone does what he can for make the hobby grow in Spain, sure it will grow. It won´t be eassy and the way will be long.
In this moment we are in the last step from the bird´s hobby in Spain. What we think is not important to the canary´s breeders, so we must fight a lot to make little changes. They won´t help us we must help our selfs, and the only way is going together in our ACEP-SBS. With the club we can make our onw show with our own rules. We a preparing that rules for next year wie will have our first show with our own rules.
This year we already have done a big improvement with our firsts baby shows, never done before in Spain and creating the Spanish Budgerigard Society. Now with the help and experience of foreing breeders from all around Europe we can start to grow in the right way.
    Best regards,
    Salva

  17. Hi Javier,
Muchas gracias para su parlabras. It would be good to have you as our translater and teacher of Spanish and help us bond with other like minded people. I will do my best to travel and see other fanciers and shows and I may be able to encourage others to come with me.

  18. Hi John,
Hope you are starting a great breeding season, mine being the first one has started quite bumpy. Regarding the Spanish fancy, there are a least a couple of web pages as yours that it is worth visiting, I will put in contact with the owners, both members of the society you mentioned below ACEP-SBS, to see that they can add info in this your very nice web and start building connections, I am adding the link of the “under constructions” web, so you can have it http://acep-sbs.com/Inicio/Archivo.html .
The shows in Spain, it is true, keep the birds for too long on our opinion, this is one of the reason we wanted to be a Society and influence the Spaniard Canary show “industry” into something more adequate. At the same time we are planning a show for 2010 were all of you (Val&Jeff, Ray and you) will be requested to show, and I won’t take any excuses, even if you still don’t have the perfect bird, be honest you will never have ;-).
The distances in Spain are not bigger than in the UK, the density of breeders is the key element. So for you to see a few of the better ones you have to make a few hundred kilometers, this is the “price of admission”, sometimes too high, therefore most of the breeders keep a “solitary life”, especially if you don’t live by the Mediterranean coast, that it is not your case; even so you have to be ready to travel this coast, and that is not the minor thing.
In the last month there were shows in Valencia and Cataluña, with some nice birds in both, but we haven’t had a big official budgerigar show as the breeders showing in one show, were not showing in the other, as you can see even with provinces/counties not far apart most of the breeders just present birds to one of them. This week-end there is the Madrid one, I will try to attend and add a few pictures for the rest to see.
I am looking forward to meeting Val&Jeff, Ray and you next year, let’s see how we can make this happen.
Thank you for your interest and support, see you soon.
    Javier

  19. Hi Ray,

Great comments!! Good to hear from you. 60 Babies is very good from 10 pairs.
How do you find the breeding of Budgerigars in Spain compared to the UK?
Have you made any contact with Spanish breeders?
Next year I will visiting Javier in Madrid on my way back to the Costa del Sol and wish to find out more about the Society he is involved in. You mentioned distance. This I think will be the main problem for all of us. I would like to attend a show next year to see what is going on and to see if there is a possibility to show in the future. Portugal holds shows with all mixed birds and a friend of mine has Judged one of them. The show is held over 9 days. This I would find a worry.

You will find writers e-mail details if you click on RSS feed symbol top right hand corner.

  20. Hi John,
Val told me about this site so I have just logged on to see if I can be of any assistance. For those who do not know me I have been breeding and showing budgies for over 25 years. I started with budgies in Spain last year, bring 10 pairs from the UK. To dat I have breed around 60 younsters. I am always available to help anyone interested in this fancy. Visitor are always welcome and I am only too happy to visit any aviaries that are within a reasonable distance.

  21. Dear John, Val & Jeff, Many thanks for your words. For me there is much to find out how the fancy is working in Spain. e.g how are shows run. What rules and regulations are in place. Are they workable? I do beleave the Club that I joined and sent 35 euros to is affiliated WBO. Next year I will go to the Valencia Show to see what I can learn. I feel there must be a meeting for a group of fanciers to meet. I'm afraid to build a club/ society it can not be done only via the internet. I will add more pages to this site and try and get a list of names and addresses of fanciers who wish to help making this hobby grow. It does not matter how small a show will be. It is starting that is important. Regards John
